How I launched my career from Pangea
January 8, 2018I started my journey at Pangea in 2019 and I was very nervous of course because I did not know what to expect or if I would be able to teach. It was the first time I have ever taught and online too but with the training provided, I felt a little less stressed.
"Pangea has helped me to grow in so many ways, both professionally and educationally.”
It was not easy at first but with the support of their 24-hour management, it is possible to have all the support you need. Yes working online can be tricky and you will experience technical problems every now and then but they have technical support steps that you can follow and the manager is just a text away. We work 6 hour shifts a day and it is flexible because you can give away a shift if you need a break.
What is the most fun for me is all the students I get to meet from around the world, you learn something new each day and you don't have to worry about lesson planning as it's all done for you. The only time you need to plan a lesson is if the student requests something specific that's not in the library. This job really can show a person qualities and skills that one never knew one had. This is also a great job for a student, I completed my post-graduate degree while working here. I also had the honour of working as an after-hour manager and this was such a great opportunity for me as it helped me to grow in so many ways both professionally and educationally.
It's not just a teaching experience, but it has enabled me to virtually travel the world!
Working as an online English teacher at Pangea, Port Elizabeth has been quite extraordinary to say the least.
The joy of interacting with people from different cultures is something I have found to be incredibly rewarding.
From the shopkeeper in Taiwan to a foreign actor or actress in Spain or Russia who needs to learn a movie script in the English language. From a secretary at "Lego" to the farmer on the outskirts of Siberia, from an engineer to a banker in Argentina, these are just the many different students you may meet.
Being an online tutor taught me to be more self-sufficient and resourceful, and that some things are universal, no matter our differing backgrounds.
My experience has continuously offered opportunities for personal development, professional growth and has made me grateful for taking the step to start something this challenging and reap the rewards of discipline and hard work.
